1. Introduction

Welcome to Glossary ("we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application, Glossary (the "App").

Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the App.

2. Information We Collect

Data you provide directly (sent to cloud):

  • Email address — used for account creation and authentication via Supabase Auth
  • User ID (UID) — assigned automatically upon account creation
  • Feature requests or feedback you submit in-app — stored in Supabase

Data stored locally on your device only (never sent to us):

  • Vocabulary progress: discovered words, learning streaks, activity heatmap
  • User preferences: reminder times, theme settings, learning goals

Data collected automatically by third-party SDKs:

  • Paywall events (user ID, subscription status) — collected by the Superwall SDK to manage premium access
  • Device information (device type, operating system, app version) — implicitly collected by Supabase and Superwall SDKs

Payment information:

Premium subscriptions are processed through the Superwall SDK and your device's native payment system (Apple App Store or Google Play). We do not collect or store your payment card details directly.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Personalise your word feed and learning experience
  • Track your learning progress and statistics
  • Send you daily reminders and notifications (only if you opt in)
  • Process premium subscription payments
  • Improve the App's content, features, and performance
  • Respond to your support requests and feature suggestions
  • Ensure the App complies with our Terms of Use
  • Meet our legal obligations

4. Information Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share information with the following trusted service providers who assist in operating the App:

  • Supabase — our backend database and authentication provider. Supabase stores your account data and syncs your vocabulary progress. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
  • Superwall — our paywall and subscription management provider. Superwall processes premium upgrade flows. See Superwall's Privacy Policy.
  • Apple App Store / Google Play — app distribution and in-app purchase processing. Subject to Apple's and Google's respective privacy policies.

We may also disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Supabase's secure servers. We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.

Vocabulary data and game progress are also stored locally on your device (SQLite) so the App works offline. This local data remains on your device and is not accessible to us.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App's services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
  • Erasure — request deletion of your account and personal data
  • Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Objection — object to certain types of data processing
  • Notification opt-out — disable push notifications at any time in your device settings

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@glossary.mytikas.org.

8. Children's Privacy

Glossary is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us immediately at privacy@glossary.mytikas.org and we will delete the information promptly.

9. International Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • The lawful basis for processing your data is either your consent (for optional features) or our legitimate interest in providing and improving the service.
  • You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
  • Data transfers outside the EEA are conducted using appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).

10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete your personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information. To make a request, contact privacy@glossary.mytikas.org.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by sending an in-app notification. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
